Culloden Cove
Whitehouse, Jamaica

Leave your world behind and enter quite another sense of place and time, just 70 minutes from Montego Bay on Jamaica's quiet South Coast between Bluefields and Whitehouse you will find CULLODEN COVE.

Formerly the well-known Culloden Café, rated one of Jamaica's top 10 restaurants, CULLODEN COVE is now a private two-story villa, plus a cottage that sleeps 1-10 (12 if small children are in your group) .

As you turn off the main road onto a hidden drive, you'll pass two cottages through rows of Traveller's Palms. The 1st is for your groundskeeper, security, and maintenance man, Winston, and the 2nd is for your guest’s enjoyment.

At the end of the drive sits CULLODEN COVE, the refurbished 1920’s Anglo-Jamaican country house surrounded by gardens that are favored by everyone from naturalists to bird watchers. This property features over 200 species of rare plants, plus an abundance of fruit trees - everything from Ackee, Avocado, Banana, Breadfruit, Coconut, Grapefruit, Guava, Jamaican apple, June plum, Lime, Lychee, Passion fruit... There is typically fresh fruit to eat as well as fresh cut flowers (birds of paradise, heliconia, hibiscus, to name a few) in vases strewn about the villa all year round for guests to enjoy.

There are two covered terraces for guests to occupy, each with there own special nuance – one is beach side where you gaze off into the azure Caribbean sea as you sip your Blue Mountain morning coffee or evening cocktail and leave everything behind. There is also a two tiered terrace below the house where both relaxation and entertaining happen, there is a large dining area for up to 10 guests, comfortable sofa and chairs as well as hanging seats. The lower terrace is covered with two vines, passion fruit and thumbergia, which serves as a canopy of beautiful hanging purple flowers all year long. This provides excellent shade as well as attracting a constant stream of humming birds throughout the day who feast on the nectar of the purple flowers. Day-beds and chairs are provided for lounging. You can also dine here under the stars.

As you gaze across the grand lawns from this terrace, which sweep down to the infinity pool and your own private sandy entranced beach/swimming cove, you face the sunset and the calm-lit night. Everything one can think of or ask for is provided here at CULLODEN COVE.

The enhanced modern kitchen with black granite countertops and cedar cabinets is fully equipped with everything for guests who might enjoy cooking with the island's wonderful variety of fresh seafood, fruit, and vegetables from local fishers and Whitehouse market -- electric stove, refrigerator, microwave, kettle, and coffee maker.

However, your internationally trained housekeeper, Nathalee and Lilly, are happy to prepare delicious meals for you at your request, using the same locally procured fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, and free-range meats.

If you wish to experience some of the local culture and go shopping at the nearby market for some of your meal supplies, Nathalee or Lilly would be pleased to have the company, but don’t fret if all you want to do is sit and read in the loungers while sunbathing, go snorkeling at the off-shore reef, gaze at the ocean from the infinity pool, walk through the gardens to take in the vibrant colors of the flowers…all this plus more awaits you at CULLODEN COVE.

Villa Reviews:

We had an amazing time and literally nothing could be better. Nathalee and Lily are artists. Please pass on our thanks to everyone!” ~ January 2023 from Virginia

”We were very happy at Culloden, such a beautiful place. Everything was lovely in the house, the food made by Nathalee was superb, Lily, Howard and all the ancillary staff were spot on, friendly and helpful.” ~ January 2023 from UK

"I am an expat currently living in Kingston. Friends of mine from back home were coming to visit and I wanted to do something truly different and I came across this villa online. Nestled away in the rural Jamaican countryside is Culloden Cove. I cannot recommend this villa highly enough - if you want to experience the 'real' Jamaica then this is for you.

We spent 75% of our time outside by the pool and lazing around in the lovely seating areas to be found all around. The food was amazing and Natalie and Gail were a pleasure to be around. I have lived in Jamaica for six months now and I have yet to experience food like it!! I hope to return to this truly magical place in the not too distant future."

"We booked this villa for a special three nights/four days with our teenage children, visiting from boarding school, and some old friends who were visiting Jamaica for the first time. They both had birthdays during our stay. They also had small children (3&6).

We loved: the comfortable beds, lovely outdoor dining area, private beach and jetty, clean and warm pool, peace, and beautiful gardens with regular visiting doctor birds (humming birds). The ladies who look after the place were very friendly and discreet. They did some shopping for us ahead of our visit (good value, as they go to the local market, fishermen and butcher) and prepared really delicious meals for us. We used the kayaks to visit the nearby reef and swam in the sea. We didn't really leave the villa as it was so nice there. All in all, a very enjoyable short visit. We would love to go back!"

"Culloden Cove is very hard to beat, so much so that we returned for a second time this year. Culloden is such a great place to hang out and relax, The villa itself is charming and very spacious and there's a great outdoor eating space that looks out across the gardens - which stretch down to a perfect family swimming pool and your own private beach! But best of all were Dion and Gayle who looked after us this time and who were just brilliant. All their delicious food and their ever helpful demeanour made the holiday for us. We love this part of Jamaica - it's unspoiled, quiet and beautiful. If you can, go!"
~ March 2016 guests from London

"We all had a fantastic time. Staff is FABULOUS! They were so good to help us feel at home, answer questions about culture of Jamaica, give us great food experience and help us with arrangements needed for outings. I'd definitely recommend and would tell everyone to opt for "cooks choice" for all meals as there was absolutely nothing that wasn't fantastic. None of us could believe how great we ate and drank at such a fantastic price! An experience we were certain couldn't be achieved at a resort. Staff was great to help us with local connections for transportation and suggestions of things to see to really get the Jamaican experience!"
~ July 2015 guests from Spencer Indiana

"We spent a truly unforgettable week at Culloden Cove and fell in love with the place itself and this stretch of the Jamaican coast. The villa is a great, great family getaway. We were there with another family - both with our two young children - and it couldn't have been a more ideal place in which to relax, have fun and most of all, feel right at home. The vibe here is easy going. The villa is really lovely but frankly, not too precious, which, with four kids in tow suited us.

Big highlights for us were the lovely staff and the delicious meals they served up. There's lots to do and see in this part of Jamaica but we spent a lot of time at the villa itself, lazing by the pool or kayaking around the cove. It's not cheap but it's definitely worth it! I'd recommend Culloden Cove in a heartbeat.

"We spend an amazing week with my husband at 2 kids (7&9) at the Culloden Cove villa. Our stay was wonderful. The villa, infinity pool, beach and gardens are stunning. The staff was great at making us feel comfortable and making sure we were having a great time. The food was great and we enjoyed the attentiveness of everyone here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxing getaway." ~ February 2014 guests from Summit, New Jersey

"We spent a wonderful weekend at Culloden Cove in the month of November 2013. It was 4 adults and 5 children. The location is beautiful, the infinity pool looks on the Caribbean sea. The property is lush with tropical plants and every morning and evening we watched the famous Jamaican doctorbird feed on the flowers.

I have lived in Jamaica (in Kingston) for 9 years now, and I have been to numerous villas with my family. Still, I have to say that this weekend was the best experience for us in a villa on the island!!!

The service by the 2 ladies was excellent, the food was great. It was very relaxing! We are planning to go back to the villa this year."
~ November 2013 guests from Kingston, JA

"I recently enjoyed a lovely stay at Culloden Cove this past June. The house, and especially the staff, contributed to great memorable experience. Everyone loved the food the staff cooked, most notably the jerk chicken and goat curry. The house was clean and well decorated. We also felt safe the whole time, as there is a security guard patrolling the premisses. Overall, I would highly recommend this rental property."
~ June 2013 guests from DC

"An incredible weekend! The hard part is leaving after only two days. Very comfortable and ample room for two families of 4 adults and 5 children. The villa is beautiful and the grounds stunning! We dined by the beach, witnessed the most beautiful sunsets, explored colourful sea creatures while snorkeling, enjoyed the calm of the pool but mostly simply relaxed forgetting every day hassles. We really appreciated looking at the stars at night on the pier. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They prepared for us gastronomic meals and kept the place nice and tidy. This place is perfect. A little paradise!"
~ December 2012 guests from Jamaica

"It really is a stunning property that enables you to sample the true spirit of Jamaica whilst also retaining many luxurious touches necessary to have a completely relaxing holiday. The owners have clearly devoted much time and energy into creating a tropical paradise and they really have thought of everything. The bedrooms are large and airy, the bathrooms clean and modern and the living spaces are somehow easygoing and relaxing. The mature garden really is something else, at the end of which is an infinity pool, past which are steps down into the sea, a perfect vantage point for taking in the amazing sunsets - what more could you ask for?"
~ August 2011 guests from London

"A lovely quiet villa with stunning views. The staff were helpful and also excellent cooks so we ate very well throughout our 3-day stay. The villa is large and airy and simply decorated. Infinity pool overlooking the sea is the perfect place to watch the sunset."
~ August 2011 guests from Kingston, JA

"Our family absolutely loved staying at the villa. It was a beautiful spot and one of the most relaxing holidays we have had. The children loved the house and swimming in the pool and we didnt want to leave. It is a great location, a peaceful haven from which to explore Jamaica and a real treat. I would highly recommend it for a family holiday."
~ July 2011 guests from Somerset, UK

"I stayed here in June with my partner - we had an absolutely amazing time - the holiday of a lifetime! From the moment we arrived we felt totally relaxed and chilled out - so much so that I left the house twice in a week. Although there's lots of places nearby to visit we were more than happy to stay put and let our biggest decisions of the week be whether to have a swim in the fabulous infinity pool or the sea, whether to eat our lunch sat on the veranda in the beautiful gardens or in the gazebo overlooking the sea, whether to have a cold beer or a a jamaican rum and whether to have fish or chicken for dinner.

The house itself is very relaxing- really comfortable (especially the beds which is important to me), nice furniture all locally made and spacious.

But the grounds are amazing - fantastic tropical plants, humming birds on the vines, pelicans swooping into the sea to catch their breakfast - paradise. The pool is a really decent size - big enough to swim in.

Dion the housekeeper looked after us very well - nothing was too much trouble for her. We ate jamaican food all week (at our request - she can cook lots of kinds of food) but for us ackee and saltfish for breakfast, freshly caught barbecued fish or jerk chicken, conch soup and patties were perfect. Her curried goat and rice and peas was probably the best I've ever tasted. Winson does a great job of keeping the pool and gardens clean and tidy (as well as collecting fresh fruit from the grounds for Dion to turn into tasty juices).

I would whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone - it was a perfect romantic break for us - but would also be ideal for a family or a group of friends.

Whilst the photos look great - believe me - this place is even better in the flesh!"
