Driftwood
Great Bay, Treasure Beach, Jamaica
Away from resort land on Jamaica's non-touristy South Coast, Driftwood is hidden away in Great Bay, probably the least known and most secluded of all the 5 villages that make up Treasure Beach.
Fifteen-minute drive from Calabash Bay, a private drive leads off the main, through a field of blue-flowering lignum vitae trees and rose bougainvillea to a beachfront villa the color of a ripe Julie or East Indian mango.
For those who have seen it, Pedro's Bluff is as iconic a view as Diamond Head in Hawaii. The view of this natural land mark is spectacular -- through coconut palms over green lawns that stretch to the ocean's edge to Great Pedro Bluff beyond.
If you've ever dreamt of living the life of a carefree beachcomber, Driftwood is your kind of world away from it all. Up to 6 guests are all comfortably accommodated here in 3 A/C and ceiling-fanned, screened bedrooms, each with private bath.
The central living room opens through folding shutters directly out to the ocean view verandah. Enjoy Jamaican, country-style meals (breakfast and dinner) prepared by your cook, MARIE, outside on the verandah looking at the Caribbean sea, inside in at the dining table, or in the back under the vine-covered arbor terrace.
Laze on the chaises. Then, stroll down the lawn thru the gate to the right about 100 yards a sandy beach cove with calm waters; your second beach access is the wide sandy beach of Great Bay Beach, largest and calmest on the South Coast with the best swimming -- it's about a 7 minute coastal walk towards the left of the property.

Villa Reviews:
"Driftwood Villa is a lovely and peaceful space in a perfect location. The house is right in front of the ocean and designed so you can see the ocean from almost every room. There are plenty of windows (with screens) and double doors to keep open and let the breeze in. We did not need the AC at all. The rooms were all comfortable and my favorite part were the several outdoor spaces to eat and relax. The pool was also great and the option to walk along the ocean and access the beach was awesome. Communication ahead of our trip was great and the bikes and meals we wanted were all set up for us when we got there. Marie is an awesome chef and her assistant was super kind and played with our youngest daughter. They even let her help in the kitchen, which she likes to do. Our stay was really relaxing and enjoyable. We will be back!”

“Great Place! Marie and Stacey were very helpful and Marie did a wonderful job cooking. They were efficient and everything was done on time. The place was always kept clean. One of the best places in the Treasure Beach area. Nice pool and great views. To top it all off Nicole was very efficient on the communication side. We will be back!”

“Driftwood is a beautiful home in an incredible setting! We cannot wait to return.”

“This is possibly the best villa/ airbnb I've ever stayed in (and I've been to a lot of them). The place is stunning and is right by the ocean, there are several mini beaches to the right of the property and one beautiful, largely untouched large beach where you can meet locals to the left. The place is stunning, very stylish with lots of space inside and outside the house - very large and well manicured lawn. Marie and Stacey are very helpful and welcoming, and their food is top notch. Try the lobster if you get the chance.
10/10 easily, I plan on coming bush one day for sure.”
~ 2019 ABnB Review“The location is great. Nicole was very helpful. The ladies at home were very nice, service was great, they cooked delicious, you feel very relaxed and treated very well.
The house is in very good conditions, a beautiful view and the pool is nice.
I highly recommend the location.”
~ 2019 ABnB Review”Our stay at Driftwood was the most relaxing, quiet, and laid back vacation to Jamaica we have ever taken. During the planning of the trip, Nicole was there to answer my MANY questions, and in a timely manner, which was so appreciated! Upon arrival, my husband and I were met with the smiling faces of Marie and Stacy, and I knew instantly we would become friends. We spent our mornings enjoying coffee on the shaded porch watching the water, reading books, and taking walks on the beach. Afternoons were perfect for swimming in the pool, and soaking up the sun in the comfortable loungers. The shaded palapa area by the pool was our spot for lunches and snacks, nice and cool! There is also a private outdoor shower. Marie took care of all the grocery shopping, and her cooking, hands down, is some of the best I’ve ever tasted in my 15 trips to the island. She also organized transportation into town for us, and was there to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be visiting Driftwood again, hopefully sooner than later!!”

“We booked Driftwood for New Years and could not have been happier. One of the most stressful parts of planning a vacation is figuring out where to stay. We wanted a nice, easily accessible beach and to be able to walk to town. Driftwood was perfect.
There is a semi-private cove about two minutes from the back gate (to the right) and about 10 minutes away (to the left) is what the locals call the best beach in the area (we agree -- get curried lobster at the Lobster Pot and beers at the Rock Style bar a little further down). Getting to the main attractions in Treasure Beach took a little more work. It was a half hour walk along the beach. (There's a shortcut, but we never learned it. We called a car a few times, no problem. ;)
The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained with everything you need, towels, floats, etc. One of the best features of the house (and something I wasn't sure we actually wanted at first) was the staff. Marie and her daughter kept everything tidy and were excellent cooks and did wonders with the groceries we bought. The groundskeeper Bounty was our guide to the area showing us beaches, helping us get things we needed and even escorting us to the New Years Eve party at Jack Sprats (which was CRAZY!). Plus, he answered all our questions about life in Jamaica, which I loved.”
~ 2018 ABnB Review“Driftwood was amazing! Me and three friends spent a few days at the villa, swimming, relaxing, taking boat rides and exploring the area. I would highly recommend this as a destination for anyone interested in a relaxing, mostly private spot away from the more touristy areas. Marie, Stacey and Bounty were beyond hospitable and very kind all around. We miss Marie's food already. The house was always very clean, and the grounds emasculate. Can't wait to come back!”

““Our party of 7 loved Driftwood and our visit to Jamaica. The staff were fantastic. Every meal was extraordinary. The villa is beautiful, spacious and clean. The property is beautiful. The location is beautiful. We loved having our meals on the veranda. We loved hanging out dancing under the stars on the wooden deck by the pool. Nicole arranged a driver for us. Eric was wonderful. We were pampered from the moment we got off our flight until we got back on a flight home. Treasure Beach is a very special part of Jamaica. We all cannot wait to go back again. And we will definitely stay at Driftwood.”
~ 2017 ABnB Review"We had a wonderful trip. Marie, Wendy, and Bounty took great care of us, and we ate like royalty. The pool was always clean, and hammock was a highlight. We could not have been happier.
We had a pleasant, short visit to YS Falls. We decided not to go to the Pelican Bar (we were enjoying Driftwood too much to pay $125 to miss time at Driftwood). We ate at Jack Sprat on the way back from YS Falls and did a guided tour of Jake's with our driver Eric."

"We enjoyed our holiday at Driftwood very much! We had a lovely time on a beautiful spot and excellent and very hospitable housekeeping staff.
Many thanks from our whole family. We sure will recommend Driftwood to others. Thanks to you also, Nicole for your clear communication and taking care of our carefree holiday.”
~ guests from Holland"We went to Jamaica for our sister's wedding. Lots of advanced planning and searching for the right property was done but you never really know what it's going to be like. None of us had ever rented a house, only hotels or all-inclusive resorts so this was a new experience. Nicole got back to me usually within the same day and had lots of info and answered my questions and made me comfortable with our decision.
Driftwood was truly an amazing experience. It is definitely off the beaten trail and very secluded. We arrived after 9 pm and so we couldn't see the ocean but could hear it and knew it was close!! The view is stunning and the sound of the ocean so relaxing!! There were 3 people there to take care of us. Marie our cook was amazing and extremely flexible in whatever we needed and pampered us all! Wendy was her helper and O'Dane took care of the pool and outside area. My sister says the food was phenomenal and she loved it all!! Some of us had some trouble with it, but that's because of our tastes (we don't really like fish, and we agreed to what she could cook, so it was our own fault, lol) We had jerk chicken or fried chicken in multiple places but Marie's was the best hands down!!
We didn't do AC as it was quite a bit more money but had no trouble sleeping. There were two beaches right close to the house and the ocean was so fun. The yard is breathtaking with palm trees, 2 thatch hut sitting areas, hammock, and lovely pool, and the sunsets are fabulous!! A wonderful place to vacation and unwind from the everyday stress of work etc. Wifi was great. There were geckos to clean up the bugs that made their way inside but were fairly elusive and only came out if we were still and quiet. We rented a van and had a couple of us with a taxi/shuttle so we could follow them to the driftwood the first night. We would have never made it there without getting extremely lost. We hired a driver take us around for a couple of days, and that was great. We loved Kevin from treasuretoursjamaica.com but we found him when we rented scooters!! The hardest part about driving is directions and the potholes!! There are hardly any signs for directions and they know every hill and corner so its "at the top of the hill go right and after the sugar cane field take your second left". They honk all the time, but it's to let you know they're passing or coming around the corner, or going by someone's house that they know.Overall an amazing vacation in Treasure Beach, Jamaica. We totally loved the Driftwood!! Ya mon!!"
~ guests from Fort Macleod, Canada"Driftwood was paradise! The views are spectacular and the beach was wonderful for our young family. We were spoiled by Marie and Wendy. They were the nicest people who took great care of us and our children. I've been to many all-inclusives, but Driftwood is so much better. Treasure Beach is a hidden gem in Jamaica. We will definitely be back! Thank you Marie, Wendy, Warren and Carl."

"Even before we left for Jamaica, we knew this would be a special holiday, because Tiverton House handled everything with such exceptional professionalism and care. We weren't disappointed. Driftwood is a beautiful home, beautifully furnished and well cared-for. There is a lovely yard with a nice pool and two thatched huts for shade and relaxation. The long veranda is ideal for sitting in the shade and listening to the surf hit the rocks. Terrific beach is a pleasant 5-10 minute walk. Coconut trees flow in the breeze, and the staff helped us cut down a couple of coconuts for our enjoyment. Walk to the end of Great Bay beach for a chance to hang out with local Jamaicans at the Lobster Pot and have a Red Stripe or two. This is not the place to come if you want lots of people or nightlife. It is the place to come if you want to feed your soul and enjoy the true warmth of Jamaica and its people."

"The time we spent at Driftwood surpassed all preconceptions. As promised Marie and Wendy were fine housekeepers/cooks who fully met all our particular culinary requests as well as being lovely people. Warren helps to keep the grounds' wonderful landscape plus we had the bonus of eating his grandmother's fresh made bammys. Our experience left us feeling so highly about Driftwood that we are seriously considering returning next year."

"What an amazing vacation! This was my 7th trip to Jamaica...and the best yet! Driftwood Villa is an absolutely lovely home on a gorgeous property overlooking the sea. We spent much of our time floating in the pool, staring at the sea and great sunset views. This is a great place to completely chill out. It's very quiet, safe and serene. There are day trips, etc. that can be made, but we took this opportunity to just relax. The ladies who run the household, Marie and Wendy, are fantastic and made our stay just perfect! Marie made all of our favorite Jamaican foods: lobster, brown stew fish & curried goat - delicious! Looking forward to returning in 2014!"

"Driftwood exceeded our expectations. It's location is terrific. It's comfortable and the staff ensure you're well taken care of. Perfect for getting away from it all and relaxation. We still miss the sound of the ocean, the views, the sunset... The only small thing missing for us was radio/cd/iPod hook up for music. It would have been great if we could listen to music while we were outside. That's a small thing... We will be back! Thank you Marie, Wendy, Gregory and Carl!"

"This was our first visit to Jamaica in late august 2012.Our family loved the property with perfect ocean view and great swimming pool. Since the weather was a little windy we spend a lot of time in swimming pool.Marie was very caring and loving lady in making us wonderful Jamaican food.I definitely recommend this property to everyone!"

"Treasure beach is off the tourist path, however for a perfect weekend of peace and perfection go to treasure beach. the staff of Drfitwood were incredible, the house clean and in good shape, lovely pool and a view to die for."

"The most beautiful property rented is Driftwood. It is elegantly appointed, tastefully decorated with native art, cool and spacious, and set in the midst of a tropical garden that includes a plunge pool. The location is a short distance from town, so there is nothing but peace and quiet, sun and shade, breezes and the whisper of the ocean to hear. You will receive the full attention and culinary expertise of Marie, who will ensure that your every desire is met. Treasure Beach is a close knit community and we have always felt welcome everywhere we went in town. It is very different from other cities in Jamaica such as Negril, that have become crowded with strangers."

"My daughter said it was the best vacation ever. Keep in mind she has been to England where we rented a townhouse in a village that was built in the 1500's. She spent 6 weeks in France last year. We also have spent 3 weeks in a private home in Switzerland with friends. We have been to Mexico to see the Mayan ruins and we rented an ocean front condo on Kuaui for a week a number of years ago. So her compliment comes with a wide array of experience in foreign stays. My husband wants to know what it costs to buy a little piece of paradise like Driftwood! Not that we could do that but we can dream. What made it so special you might ask. Well, of course location is part of it. We loved its location. Not actually on the beach so nobody was camped out right in front of us but the beautiful beach and coves were just steps away. The view was spectacular.
Another key element is the house itself. It was comfortable and relaxing. The bed in the large bedroom was very comfortable! The porch, the pool, the gazebo! If I owned such a wonderful place I would consider screening in more of the windows, we were assailed by mosquitoes. I would also put a t.v. in the main living area. We didn't watch it much but when we did we didn't want to invite the girls into our bedroom to watch it too. I might also try to provide bikes for renters due to its distance from Jack Sprats, etc. We were not comfortable driving due to the fact we are used to driving on the opposite side of the road and Jamaicans drive much more enthusiastically than we.
The last element that made this vacation so memorable were the people. Marie took wonderful care of us. Her cooking was fabulous, her respect for the money we spent on food and her efforts to be economical were very much appreciated. Her warmth and humor made us feel right at home. She takes wonderful care of the house and its occupants. Her advice was always helpful. It felt great to be able to put ourselves in her hands. We also loved Sylvan, I don't know if that is how you spell his name, from Treasure Tours. He drove us to several locations, YS Falls, Appleton Rum factory and Negril. The place he took us to in Negril we loved. Alberts was low key, on the beach, the food was good, it was uncrowded and the people there didn't hound us to buy, tip, etc. We rented jet skis and had a blast. He also took the kids to ATI and picked them up. It was a relief to know they were in his capable hands. While he is expensive it was worth it due to the safety factor and his knowledge. For the first time ever I can see us returning to a vacation destination. There is still so much of the world to see yet very few places we have been to have offered Driftwood's unique combination of beauty, comfort, relaxation and warmth!"
